Rehabilitation Course: "Adaptive Skiing"

Urban Program “Adaptive Skiing for Children with Disabilities in High-Altitude Conditions” Program period: November–December 2022

The program consists of 10 sessions and is aimed at non-medication rehabilitation of children diagnosed with autism, developmental delay (ZPR), speech delay (ZRR), general speech underdevelopment (ONR), intellectual disabilities, Down syndrome, ADHD, and other neurological conditions.

The sessions are held on high-altitude slopes in conditions of natural hypoxia (reduced oxygen content in the air). In such an environment, the body activates its natural adaptive mechanisms:

  • improved cardiovascular function,
  • stimulation of angiogenesis and muscle capillarization,
  • enhancement of brain activity,
  • optimization of sleep and better control over body functions.

Classes are conducted individually with each child, according to specially developed programs. They help to:

  • develop physical skills,
  • adapt to the social environment,
  • boost the child’s self-confidence,
  • raise public awareness about integrating people with disabilities as equal members of society.

All sessions and services are provided free of charge — funding is covered by the Akimat of Almaty.

Venue: Family Mountain Resort “Pioneer,” located in the gorge of the Ile-Alatau National Nature Reserve, at an altitude of about 2,000 meters above sea level. Address: 27 Alma Tau St., Almaty
